|

Praxis Martial Arts is proud to welcome aboard Tim Wilmoth as the newest member of our staff!! Tim, along with his wife Jennifer and their entire family have been a staple in the Griffin, GA martial arts community for many, many years. Mr. Wilmoth has an extensive background in wide array of different styles of martial arts and has devoted most of his life to practicing, training and imparting his knowledge to his many loyal students as the owner/operator of Griffin Martial Arts Academy and later as the head instructor of Premier Martial Arts in Griffin. An invaluable asset to the team, Tim brings great experience and knowledge concerning the marketing and business of martial arts and he will also be heading up our youth program and after school programs. We at Team Praxis look forward to working and learning from Tim and having him as part of the Team Praxis family!

Chris Wins!!!!
|

Chris "No Sweat" Calhoun improved his amateur MMA record to 4-1 this past Saturday night with a quick 7 second head kick KO over undefeated fighter Steele McCall! This fight took place on the undercard of the historical Auburn Fight Night which featured the MMA debut of Kyle Maynard!!
Chris continues to improve and should be making his pro debut soon!

Latest Team Praxis Competition Results!!

Been a while since we updated because we have been so busy traveling and competing!!
March 21st- NAGA Atlanta
Brian Arnold took home the gold medal in the beginner Masters HW division and Eddie Cummins brought home two medals including the silver in intermediate division and the gold in the intermediate Masters division!
Also on March 21st Cam McHargue and Chris "NoSweat" Calhoun headed up to Rumble By The River in Chattanooga, TN. Cam went to ref and Chris went to get in the cage and do what he does best. Unfortunately Chris' opponent decided to no-show along with his team mates so another fighter, Aaron Tumbleson, whose opponent was also on the No Show Team, stepped up to do an exhibition match with Chris despite a weight discrepancy. Chris' size advantage coupled with his skill and finesse proved to be a little too much for Tumbleson as Chris won by rear choke early in the first round. As this fight was an exhibition it will not appear as a win on Chris' record.
March 27th- King Of The Cage Atlanta
Jacob DelaRosa dispatched his opponent, James Robinson, quickly in the first round with a hammerlock submission improving Jacob's undefeated record to 3-0!
Lance Evans had a very tough fight earning his first decision win over David Pope. This fight saw Evans throwing a lot of kicks and getting a lot of takedowns and controlling the ground game while Pope cautiously waited to time a perfect overhand right. Pope managed to land it once, sending Evans to the canvas but Evans' experience pulled him through and he recovered and went on to win the decision. This improves Lance's record to 6-2.

Jacob DeLa Rosa will be looking to maintain his undefeated streak as he steps in for his 3rd amateur fight and Lance Evans will be debuting under the new Second Tier GAEC amateur rules. Also, co-headlining the event will be V-Mac/Team Praxis South's own Kamrin Naville stepping up against UFC veteran Junior Assuncao!!!! Info on that event can be found here

Team Praxis Results From Winter Heat!!
|

|
|
Winter Heat is in the books and Team Praxis went undefeated for the evening. Jacob DeLaRosa dispatched his opponent, Larry Wall, rather quickly at 1:26 into the first round with a rear naked choke keeping his record unblemished at 2-0. Chris Calhoun won his third amateur fight against a tough opponent, Robert Beecher. Beecher, being over 6 and a half feet tall and having a very long reach, proved to be an awkward obstacle for Chris but Calhoun solved the riddle getting Beecher to the ground and winning by TKO halfway through the second round. This improves Chris' record to an impressive 3-1.
Our Team Praxis South affiliate, Valdosta Martial Arts Center, also had a very good showing on the evening going 6-1 and winning all three title fights that they were in contention for. Brett Chism, Dicky Willson, Shawn Snow, Brent Johnson, Joel Weldon and Tony Ritter all walked away victorious in their bouts.

Budweiser’s Winter Heat 2009

You have trained with some of the members from the Praxis Fight Team. Now come out and watch them fight. We would love to have as many students as possible make it to their fights in order to support them. Here are some details on purchasing tickets:
February 21, 2009, is the date of the next Winter Heat event. Budweiser’s Winter Heat is an exciting card of MMA fights, just like the UFC.
Johnson Distributing/Budweiser is the title sponsor for the event. Winter Heat is also sponsored by House of Joy Church, Anytime Fitness, Vulcan Steel, Southern Builder’s Supply, and the US Army.
We will return to Mathis City Auditorium, with doors opening at 6 PM. A slate of great professional and amateur MMA fights are slated. The event is sanctioned by the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission. Check back here often for details.
